About

Why a role play village?

Role play provides a really important platform for learning within the Early Years. It enriches communication and language development; and encourages negotiation skills and problem solving.

We will often see children's confidence grow over time when given the opportunities to interact over common ground and this is where we witness the beautiful creativity born from young imaginations.

Role play allows children to take risks in a secure environment, express their feelings, learn about other cultures and engage in shared and sustained thinking.

So what can adults do?

Simply, let your child lead the play! Listen to their ideas and play along without suggestion or taking on the lead narrative.

Our other areas

We provide open-ended resources to give the children space, means and materials to create scenarios that support their knowledge and understanding.

Building explores early maths concepts of space, shape and measure, and helps to improve those fine and gross motor skills which children need for writing, amongst other essential skills later in life.

Mark-making is wonderful for promoting early writing skills through fine motor movements. It allows children to explore new concepts and represent thoughts and ideas, allowing us a new insight into their world.

"To the untrained eye, early mark-making may look fairly inconsequential as children smear, scribble and splat, but this process helps children to develop the skills and attitudes needed to become confident and competent writers."
